Hi friends, in this page I want to share ideas about CDSE exam, Syllabus, Notification, Question Papers, Results links.

What is CDSE?

We hear this word twice a year right, some friends will talk serious as “Hey friend, CDSE notification came, have you applied for that?” like this.  If you have heard these dialogues then read this and more over if you have the desire to join the Armed forces and serve the nation, this page is fully for you!!!

CDSE – Combined Defense Service Examination is conducted by UPSC – (Union Public Service Commission) twice a year for the selection of candidates to the Indian defense forces such as Army, Navy and Air Force.

The exams are conducted during the months of September and February.  And the notification for these exams will come by the month of August and March.

The candidates short listed by this exam will be called for SSB Interview.  And those who clear the interview, medically fit are inducted into training at training academies. (Based on the number of vacancies)

Ok, let we come to the number of seats in the training academies,

For Army,

Indian Military Academy, Dehradun – 250 vacancies (including 32 vacancies reserved for NCC ‘C’ certificate holders) for men.

Officers Training Academy, Chennai – 175 vacancies for men

Officers Training Academy – 25 vacancies for women

For Navy,

Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Kerala (Executive and General Courses) 40 vacancies

For Air Force,

Air Force Academy, Hyderabad – 32 vacancies

The number of vacancies given above is tentative only; it may very depend on the individual notification.

Ok, now your question is, “I want to know the eligibility to apply for this exam? Right”……..

Eligibility:-

I want to separate the eligibility criteria into two,

i) Age

ii) Education

Eligibility by Age:-

Un married male candidates in the following age groups are eligible

Indian Military Academy	18 -  23 years
Indian Naval Academy	20 – 23 years
Air Force Academy	21 – 23 years

This is respect to the 1st July at the year of examination.

Though married male candidates are allowed to join in OTA – Officer TrainingAcademy, Chennai in the age group of 17-24 years.

Eligibility by Education:-

 The candidates applying for CDSE exam should be a graduate (Bachelors degree).  Though final year students are allowed to apply only if they are able to complete their degree and show their degree certificates at the time of joining.

For Naval Academy, The candidate must have studied physics or mathematics as subjects at their graduation degree or in their Bachelor of Engineering.

Visual Standards for Navy

(a) Uncorrected without glass 6/12

(b) Corrected with glass 6/6

(c) Limits of Myopia -1.5

(d) Limits of Hypermetropia +1.5

(e) Binocular vision III

(f) Limits of Color Perception I

RADIAL KERATOTOMY AND LASER S U R G E R Y:  

Candidates who have undergone or have the evidence of having undergone Radial Keratotomy, to improve the visual acuity, will be permanently rejected for all the three services.

In order to detect PRK /LASIK all the candidates at SMB will be subjected to the measurement of Axial length by A-Scan bio-meter.

Candidates who have undergone LASER Surgery for correction of refractive error will be considered for commission in Army if they fulfill following criteria :-

(i) Age more than 20 years.

(ii) Uncomplicated stable LASIK/Excimer

(PRK) laser procedure done for Myopia or Hypermetropia, with stable refraction

for a period of six months after the procedure.

(iii) A healthy retina.

(iv)  Corrected vision should be 6 / 6 in better eye and 6/9  in worse eye, with maximum residual refraction of + 1.50 in any meridian for myopia or hypermetropia.

(v) Axial length within permissible limits.

NOTES:  The candidates will be asked to declare at the time of medical examination that  he/she has undergone LASER procedure as above. He/she will be subjected to a thorough corneal and Retinal evaluation by the ophthalmologist. However, he/she will be declared unfit at the SMB and those found to be within the acceptable limits for approval as above will be advised to undergo an Appeal Med. Board. During A M B   he/she will be subjected to a, Thorough corneal and retinal evaluation as also scrutiny of the records by a Senior Adviser in Ophthalmology. All the other medical tests are carried out by separate departments such as cardiology, dermatology etc.

STANDARD AND SYLLABUS OF THE EXAMINATION:

STANDARD OF CDSE EXAMINATION

The standard of the papers in Elementary Mathematics will be of Matriculation level. (SSLC or 10th level0

The standard of papers in other subjects will approximately be such as may be expected

of a graduate of an Indian University.  Friends, it is very much easy to clear the CDSE exam, since the questions are on an average level only.  The key to clear is, just attend the known questions. (Normal average student can able to attend more than 60% of these questions).  If we attend the known one itself,  most probably we are in.  If we attend all the questions with guess ( then it will be doubt only).  So be positive and attend the known questions with proper preparation.

The following are the syllabus of CDSE examination.

SYLLABUS FOR CDSE EXAMINATION

ENGLISH (CODE No. 01)

The question paper will be designed to test the candidates’ understanding of English and workmanlike use of words (words which is used daily in offices)

(Studying the English work book upto tenth standard with basic grammar is enough friends)

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE (Code No. 02)

General Knowledge including knowledge of current events and of such matters of

Everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of

an educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific subject. The

Paper will also include questions on History of India and Geography of a nature which

Candidate should be able to answer without special study.

ELEMENTARY MATHEMATICS (Code No. 03)

ARITHMETIC

Number System-Natural numbers, Integers, Rational and Real numbers. Fundamental

Operations addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, Square roots, Decimal, fractions.

Unitary method, time and distance, time and work, percentages, applications to simple

and compound interest, profit and loss, ratio and proportion, variation.

Elementary Number Theory- Division algorithm. Prime and composite numbers. Tests of

divisibility by 2,3,4,5,9 and 11. Multiples and factors. Factorisation Theorem. H.C.F. and L.C.M. Euclidean algorithm, Logarithms to base 10, laws of logarithms, use of logarithmic tables.

ALGEBRA

Basic Operations, simple factors, Remainder Theorem, H.C.F., L.C.M. Theory of polynomials, solutions of quadratic equations, relation between its roots and coefficients (Only real roots to be considered). Simultaneous linear equations in two unknowns-analytical and graphical solutions. Simultaneous linear inequations in two variables and their solutions.

Practical problems leading to two simultaneous linear equations or inequations in two

variables or quadratic equations in one variable & their solutions. Set language and set

notation, Rational expressions and conditional identities, Laws of indices.

TRIGONOMETRY

Sine x, cosine x, Tangent x when 0

0< x < 90 0 Values of sin x, cos x and tan x, for x = 0

0, 300, 45, 60 and 90

Simple trigonometric identities.

Use of trigonometric tables.

simple cases of heights and distances.

GEOMETRY

Lines and angles, Plane and plane figures, Theorems on (i) Properties of angles at a

point (ii) Parallel lines, (iii) Sides and angles of a triangle, (iv) Congruency of triangles,

(v) Similar triangles, (vi) Concurrence of medians and altitudes, (vii) Properties of

angles, sides and diagonals of a parallelogram, rectangle and square (viii) Circles and

its properties including tangents and normals (ix) Loci.

MENSURATION

Areas of squares, rectangles, parallelograms, triangle and circle. Areas of figures which

can be split up into these figures (Field Book), Surface area and volume of cuboids,

lateral surface and volume of right circular cones and cylinders, surface area and

Volume of spheres.

STATISTICS

Collection and tabulation of statistical data, Graphical representation, frequency

polygons, histograms, bar charts, pie charts etc. Measures of central tendency.

So the syllabus is over friends, (hope all are feeling it as easy). Let we come to the Scheme of examinations.

As per the syllabus above, the total number of examinations are three.

English

General Knowledge and

Elementary mathematics.

The number of examinations to write is different for different entries,

Such as for Induction into the OTA-Officer Training, it is enough only two exams. For the rest of others, we have to write the three.

The exams are conducted with a duration of 2 hours and total marks are 100.

For the Admissions into the Indian Military Academy, Air Force Academy and Naval Academy.
